Plans are underway for the 5th annual OPENING DAY for MINOR BASEBALL in the Foothills.  Opening Day is a celebration of the great game of baseball and of the kids in our area who play it.  Opening Day 2009 will be on Saturday, May 2 at On Deck (one mile east of Okotoks recycling center).

*  Opening ceremonies for all players are at noon.

* Baseball games and the Carnival is between 8am-3pm.  Watch for your team's game schedule and volunteer duties to be distributed when teams are formed.

Favourite carnival stops like the Cake Walk, Milk Can knock down, and cotton candy will be back again this year.  We are also adding a second inflatable obstacle course.  Every player is asked to contribute a bake sale item for the "cake walk" and each team is encouraged to prepare a banner for the Opening Ceremonies.  One of the hopes for Opening Day is that the teams have an opportunity to get to know each other early in the short season thru these volunteer duties, building a banner, and participating in Opening Day.

If you have any questions about Opening Day 2009, please feel free to contact Diana Froc at djfroc@platinum.ca.

Teams are now forming for Foothills regional softball teams in all age groups (7-18).

OMBA fundraising day at Spruce Meadows - June 8/08

As a way to raise funds for Okotoks Minor Ball to help keep registrations costs down and to be able to provide new uniforms and equipment as needed, OMBA has been offered a fantastic opportunity to participate in a fun, entertaining and simple fund raising promotion. We need your help in getting your players and parents to participate in this event on Sunday, June 8. All players, coaches and families will be given free access to the Grandstand for the Spruce Meadows "National" Show Jumping Tournament and must be in full uniform and full spirit. We will be required to be in attendance from 11:30 till 3:30 on Sunday afternoon. This is a great opportunity for us to raise funds while enjoying the fabulous facilities and entertainment that Spruce Meadows offers. We have reserved 200 tickets to start and can secure more if required, so coaches & managers please get us a head count by Tuesday, June 3, of all who will be attending. Please make every effort to have full participation from your team.

Thank you very much

Notice re balls landing in private property

Hi everyone,

Now that the season is in full swing and the sun is finally shining, I would just like to remind everyone that if during a game or practice, a ball lands in private property adjacent to one of the diamonds, under no circumstances should anyone enter that property to retrieve the ball without the owner’s permission.  On many diamonds this is not an issue but on diamonds such as Littler Field, Diamond #8, or JPII, there are many homes or property in close proximity.

Please pass this important information on to your team coaches, managers, parents and players.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

OMBA is looking for people interested in learning how to Umpire.
We need students, moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, basically anyone willing to learn how to umpire games of all ages in and around Okotoks. Basic training will be supplied free of charge and once qualified you could potentially be paid for every game you umpire. Please note that you would not be a "certified umpire", for that you'd have to attend a Level 1 course in Calgary. Our course would give you enough training to be able to comfortably do House League games only.  Our long term goal is to have enough umpires in Okotoks and area to be able to have an umpire at all games but we need your help to make this happen. Hockey's done it, why not ball? If you enjoy the game of baseball/softball and enjoy working with kids then this is your chance to help out and get paid for your efforts! Leagues run from May thru June and then if you were certified you could possibly umpire in playoffs or even provincials and beyond. Yet another opportunity is to extend your season by helping to umpire adult slo-pitch games at On-Deck thru Aug & Sept. If interested, please contact Erwin Krueger at 614-0360 (c) or 995-2448 (h) or Richard Kleibrink at 716-6288 (w) or 869-3905 (c) or email at
kleibrink@shaw.ca.
